April is National Card and Letter Writing Month

Please support your local stationery designer and the USPS this April as it's National Card and Letter Writing Month! I'm always for supporting local businesses! This article on the art of the thank you note has been floating around the internet this week. See the link below to have a read. "The Found Art of Thank-You Notes" by Guy Trebay for the New York Times.

Take care and stay in touch!

The Letterpress Lab 101 Class is on sale!

We are so thrilled to be offering this class in our Sheridan, Indiana studio. It is geared toward the beginner who wants to learn more about letterpress printing. We will have demonstrations of our larger presses and each participant will be able to select from 1 of 4 projects that they will get to print on our table top press. Students will learn about different types of presses, inks, papers and printing terms. This is meant to be educational and fun.

The class will be held on Sunday, October 6, from 1-4 pm. The price includes all the project materials. Drinks and snacks will be served. We are keeping the class size small, only 4 students, adults only please. So if you want to come hang out and talk shop, you need to act quickly.

Please contact me with any questions.

I hope to see you here!

Martha Stewart American Made

Okay, I've done it. I threw my hat in the ring to win the Martha Stewart American Made 2013 competition. My profile is now up and the voting begins on August 26th. I could win $10,000 and I have my eye on some sweet letterpress equipment to help round out my studio. Please support an American hand made artist and click this link to view my profile and while you're there check out all the amazing artists.

Thanks!

Global Talent Search

This could be a great opportunity for aspiring artists. Lilla Rogers is conducting a global talent search. It's not just a portfolio review, but a competition to show your talent and how well you work based on the direction given in an assignment. There are a great panel of judges from Anthropologie to Chronicle. The winner will be represented by Lilla Rogers Studio for 2 years internationally. Here is the link to get the full story. You can't win if you don't play :-) If nothing else, it will be a great learning experience.

Good luck,
Jill

What I did on my spring break

While on spring break with my family in Cape San Blas Florida, we took a little side trip to the Panama City Publishing Museum in historic St. Andrews, Florida. This small museum was once a thriving print shop that printed the area newspapers. We had a great time learning about the history of the town and the original owners of the business. They had some great presses and a beast of a linotype. To learn more stop by this web site.

Here are a few photos I snapped during our tour.
